Managing disruption key to LRT: Metrolinx

With approval in hand for a revised Transit City plan, and the public battle over delays seemingly behind him, Robert Prichard issued a reminder yesterday that the toughest days lie ahead.

A plan to build shorter light rail lines in Toronto over 10 years also means 10 years of construction, said the president and CEO of Metrolinx, Ontario's regional transportation agency.

"The greatest difficulty will be in the trenches," Mr. Prichard told the Metrolinx board of 15 directors, which includes a former politician, a developer, a lawyer, urban planners and top executives. Residents can lose sight of future benefits of transit expansion when crews are digging up major roads, so managing the disruption will be critical, Mr. Prichard said.
