Whether you’re talking about road tolls or the more modern term; road pricing, it’s easy to see times have changed.
The toll plazas you may be familiar with from interstates or bridge crossings are passé. The electronic “gates” on Hwy. 407, might have seemed futuristic in 1999 but they give little sense of the innovative models out there today.
A 2008 report by Trent University professor Harry Kitchen outlined the pros and cons of various road pricing systems and cited a 2007 study showing 45 per cent of GTA residents support road tolls if the funds go toward reducing gridlock.
