For whom does the toll roads toll? Not drivers

Show me the plan and I'll show you the money.

That should be the new slogan for drivers who live in the 905 when it comes to road tolls.

Road tolls are but two little words that incite a lot of debate. Transit authority Metrolinx has been busy at work for some time on a transit-funding plan that will likely include road tolls.

That scheme will roll out in 2011, two years ahead of schedule.

If you own a car, you are already aware of the costs associated with it: insurance, maintenance, gas and, if you haven't paid if off already, the car loan or lease payments.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the costs of a car. It is a choice to own one.

But while tolling roads may be inevitable to help pay for transit expansion, how and when they are implemented will make all the difference in the public's acceptance of them.
